Our Story

We're Rohan and Sneha. We're both data scientists, we've been in the US for over a decade, and we're planning to move back to India in the next couple of years.

Between us, we have 18 years of experience in tech. We've built our careers here, started a family here, and — slowly, steadily, without any windfalls or crypto luck — built a 7-figure portfolio across our 401k accounts, taxable brokerage, and retirement savings.

We did this while traveling to 15 countries. We're not the "rice and beans" crowd. We believe you can save aggressively and still actually live your life.

So why go back?

Our parents are getting older. We started our own family and want our kids to grow up close to their grandparents, their cousins, their roots. And honestly — the immigration situation isn't getting any easier. We've watched friends with 15-year green card backlogs burn out from the uncertainty. We don't want to spend another decade waiting for a system that may never come through.

The decision to go back wasn't sudden. It was a hundred small conversations over two years — at the dinner table, on long drives, during visits home when leaving felt harder each time.

The money part, we thought, would be the straightforward part. We were wrong. Not because it's complicated — but because almost nobody has written about it clearly.

When we started researching how to actually move our wealth home, we found scattered Reddit threads, outdated blog posts, and expensive consultants who wouldn't give you a straight answer until you paid $500. We found that most H1B workers leave an estimated $200,000 on the table — in unclaimed Social Security benefits, poorly timed 401k withdrawals, and missed tax treaty advantages.

We're data scientists. We don't like leaving money on the table. So we did what we do best: we dug into the data, built the models, read the tax treaties, talked to the experts, and figured it out.

This site is everything we've learned — written the way we wish someone had written it for us five years ago.

Rohan writes the numbers pieces — 401k strategies, Social Security claiming, tax treaty breakdowns, and the calculators and models that help you see exactly what your options are.

Sneha writes about the other half — the conversations with family, the career decisions, the fear of reverse culture shock, and the slow realization that "going back" isn't going backward.

We're not financial advisors. We're not immigration lawyers. We're just a couple who decided to figure this out properly and share what we learn along the way. If something here saves you even a fraction of the time and money we spent figuring it out — we've done our job.

Your 401k isn't stuck in America. Your Social Security isn't lost. Nobody told you this — we will.
